About the author Elke Claes earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Economics from Hasselt University in 2018, followed by two Master’s degrees in Business Economics and Economics from Hasselt University and Maastricht University, respectively. After completing her graduate studies, she worked at the Federal Public Service Finance, gaining professional experience in fiscal regulations and taxation of small and mediumsized enterprises. In 2022, Elke joined the Research Centre for Education and the Labour Market at Maastricht University as a doctoral candidate. In her doctoral studies, she focused on a diverse range of topics related to skill development in education. As part of this work, she was a member of the Education Lab, a research network dedicated to improving education by ensuring that educational policy and practice are informed by scientific evidence. In 2025, she continued her work at the Research Centre for Education and the Labour Market as a postdoctoral researcher, building on her doctoral research and contributing to projects such as the Netherlands Cohort Study on Education. 261
