Appendices TableA.3: Reading and math tests at age 10. Assessment Description Shortened Edinburgh ReadingTest The Shortened Edinburgh Reading Test is an achievement test, consisting of 67 questions. The test is divided into two parts. The first part consists of four sections, and all questions are preceded by an example explained by an interviewer. The four sections have the following types of questions: 1) The questions consist of a picture and four words. Students have to select the word that belongs to the picture; 2) Students have to cross out the word that is wrong in a sentence; 3) Students get five questions and five answers and were asked to match the right question-answer combination; and 4) Students have to answer questions with the right picture. The second part of the test is completed by the students without further assistance and consists of a variety of different questions. Friendly Maths Test The Friendly Maths Test consists of different topic areas. Every topic area starts with the easiest question, and the difficulty builds throughout the area. Students with reading difficulties may ask for assistance from the interviewer. All questions are multiple choice questions. Students get one point for every correct answers. 170
