Chapter 8 200 IMR framework was presented, in which functional recovery is proposed as a mediator between illness self-management and personal recovery. Moreover, clinical recovery may not be a prerequisite for functional or personal recovery. However, our findings do support the relevance of self-management interventions, such as IMR, for personal recovery. Not only scientific evidence will determine whether an innovation will be implemented, but probably also marketing, being in vogue, and politics. These may create a consensus. However, quite relevant to the introduction of an innovative intervention is its implementability, including support among clients and caregivers. Regarding IMR, overall, this seemed good in the two participating institutions in this study, because more than a decade after its introduction IMR is still being provided. Given the results of this study and those elsewhere in the world, IMR may be worthwhile considering as a structural part of health care provisions. However, the quality of IMR implementation requires sustained attention of practitioners, staff, and managers.
