About the author 241 11 ABOUT THE AUTHOR | CURRICULUM VITAE Lisanne Verhoef was born in Utrecht on, December 14, 1992. She grew up in Heerenveen with her parents and her brother, Laurens. She completed her secondary education at Leidsche Rijn College in Utrecht with a curricular specialisation in nature and health (NG profile) in 2011. During her bachelor’s program in BioPharmaceutical Sciences at Leiden University (2011-2015), she participated in the interdisciplinary minor “Brain and Cognition” and “Immunotherapy of Cancer”. After obtaining her bachelor’s degree, Lisanne continued here education at the University of Amsterdam with the master’s program in Biomedical Sciences (2015-2018), selecting a specialisation in “Infection and Immunity”. She completed her first-year internship at the Department of Gynaecologic Oncology of the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in Brisbane, Australia, focusing on low-risk gestational trophoblastic neoplasia, resulting in her first publication. Her second-year internship at the Molecular Pathology department of the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI), Amsterdam, the Netherlands, focused on endometriosis and ovarian cancer, and resulted in her second publication. During her second year, she wrote an literature review on the genetic predictors of subsequent invasive disease in preceding pre-invasive lesion on lobular and ductal carcinoma in situ. Lisanne discovered her interest in contributing to research and gynaecologic oncology. Therefore, after graduating in 2018, she commenced her academic career at the Molecular Pathology department of the Cancer Center Amsterdam, AmsterdamUMC, to start her PhD trajectory on host-cell methylation biomarkers in cervical cancer screening, towards molecular screening on self-collected samples. She has enjoyed working on her PhD for the last 6 years. Between January 2023 to June 2023, Lisanne dedicated part of her time as a Research & Development team member at Self-screen B.V.. Subsequently, in September 2023, Lisanne continued her scientific career as a project coordinator within the “Early Cancer Detection” theme at the NKI, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Lisanne lives with Rogier in Heemstede.
