233 About the author ABOUT THE AUTHOR Francisca Vargas Lopes was born in Setúbal, Portugal, on the 4th of May of 1989. After graduating as a Pharmacist (M.Pharm) from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon in 2013, she worked as an analyst and consultant at the Centre for Evidencebased Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon and as an outcomes research manager at MSD Portugal. In 2017, she completed an MSc in International Health Policy and Health Economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). While in London, she was a research assistant to the Social Policy and the Psychological and Behavioural Science departments of LSE, took academic placements at the health care focused thinkthank Nuffield Trust and the Health Value for Money team of the National Audit Office, and was an outcomes consultant to Pfizer UK. From September 2018 to April 2023, she worked as a PhD candidate of the Department of Public Health at the ErasmusMC in Rotterdam. As part of the interdisciplinary initiative Smarter Choices for Better Health, she had a hospitality agreement with the Applied Economics department of Erasmus School of Economics and was part of the Erasmus Centre for Health Economics Rotterdam (EsCHER). During her PhD, Francisca visited the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health of McGill University in Montreal. She had a 5-month secondment at the Mental Health and Disability team of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), in Paris. She was also actively engaged with the Portuguese Association of Health Economics (APES) and has been on the board since 2021. In July 2023, Francisca started a new job as a Health Policy Researcher at the Health Division of the OECD’s Directorate of Employment, Labour and Social Affairs. She continues pursuing her research and teaching interests in Academia through a parttime Assistant Professor position at the Health Economics department of the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management. She is Vice President of APES for the mandate of 2023-2025. A
