108 Chapter 4 In general, more input and consensus by experts is preferred for the further development of the concept and use of MCS. Therefore, a Delphi-study about the definition and the involved conceptual elements of MCS could be beneficial to gain more knowledge and a broader consensus regarding the concept of MCS. CONCLUSION In literature, no clear definition existed of moral craftsmanship (MCS), and there was no instrument to measure it. Based on an explorative literature search, this study developed a definition of MCS, including a mind map of related conceptual elements on the individual, team, and leadership levels. To operationalize MCS, we then developed the first MCS-questionnaire, which consists of eight domains and a total of 70 items. This MCSQ can help measure the MCS of professionals in organizations. It may be used – with a pre-and post-measurement – to analyze the impact of moral interventions on the MCS of professionals. This exploratory study can be taken forward by a Delphi study among experts about the definition of MCS, and by further validation of the items in the MCSQ. The latter could result in a more generic and shorter version of the MCSQ. The current study contributed to the understanding of the concept of MCS and initiated the attempt to measure the MCS of professionals in organizations.
