199 About the author Ellen Ricke was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands on December 18, 1976. In 1996 she completed secondary school at the Herbert Vissers College in NieuwVennep. She then completed several studies (Traditional Chinese Medicine; Master of Sports; associate master of Social Psychology), while working in her own practice and as a public health consultant at municipality of The Hague. Here she acquired experience in Dutch health policy and in supporting people with chronic diseases. To contribute more to the quality of care for people with chronic diseases, she decided to combine studying physiotherapy and engaging in research with her work at the time. In 2018, she graduated her study physiotherapy at Pro Education. She then worked within pulmonary and oncology rehabilitation and as a physiotherapy lecturer with a specialty in pulmonary rehabilitation. She continued research as a linking pin for Leiden University Medical Center and Marente in Oegstgeest by linking science and practice. In 2019 she started as an external PhD student at the University of Groningen, which resulted in this thesis. To enhance the depth of her PhD project, she started a study as a clinical epidemiologist, including the extra-curricular modules implementation research and qualitative research, at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam, which she completed in 2022. In 2022 she started working at patient organization and health organization Longfonds [Dutch Lung Foundation] in Amersfoort. Her projects are strongly related to the topic of this thesis. Among other things, she collaborates with the Dutch Health Care Institute, health insurers, various patient organizations, professional organizations such as the Dutch Association of Pulmonologists, and European organizations such as the European Respiratory Society.
