118 | Chapter 5 The actions steps and early warnings that were proposed by the participants of the stakeholder session are presented in the table, at the centre of figure 3. While participants easily suggested possible action steps and early warnings, they often struggled to assign these action steps and early warnings to only one of the two poles of the polarity. M oderator: “That [faculty actively engage with the portfolio] is perhaps more related to the bit about learner agency, which you encourage actively by er.. supporting someone. Or do you think that is part of accountability?” Team leader: “Er…” Faculty member 1: “Perhaps both” The revisions, which were shared via email with the participants after the stakeholder session, are explained in the boxes surrounding the table in figure 3. While different participants replied that they agreed with the new version of the polarity map®, one faculty member responded specifically to the removal of the proposed early warning ‘there is little documentation in the portfolio’: Facultymember: “I certainly think it is an important signal that asks for further conversation with the trainee, on how it should be perceived. It does not automatically mean that there are problems with the learning process, but it does make you curious about that.” Despite this negative response we decided that there would be no early warning regarding the amount of documentation, as in our opinion the response of the faculty member did not refute the reason for removal (a lack of distinctiveness). The final version of the action steps and early warnings is presented in figure 2.
