112 | Chapter 5 Figure 1 The polarity map® with a description of its different components 1. The polarity The two poles of the polarity are stated in the two ovals in the middle of the map. 2. Greater purpose statement (GPS) The GPS is stated on top of the map. It refers to the situation that one hopes to accomplish by balancing the two poles of the polarity. 3. Deeper Fear On the bottom of the map the deeper fear is presented: what might happen if a balance between the two poles is not achieved? 4. Values For each pole values are stated in the upper two quadrants of the map. These values describe what positive results can follow when the pole in question is supported. 5. Fears In the bottom two quadrants of the map, fears of each pole are stated. They describe the negative results that can be caused by an over-focus on one of the two poles, at the expense of the other pole. 6. Action steps On both sides, next to the values, action steps are suggested. These contain concrete actions one can/should take in order to gain or maintain the values of a particular pole. 7. Early warnings The early warnings are reported next to the fears. They concern measurable indicators that indicate that one is heading towards the fears of one of the two poles. 1 1 2 3 4 4 5 5 6 6 7 7
