CONCLUSIONS Although for four of the five pre-defined potential associations the observed effects were numerically in the direction as expected, statistically there was no clear support for any of the associations. Besides sample size, other reasons for the fact that associations could not be confirmed could be those hospitals in the Netherlands struggle with the introduction of advanced functionalities like closed loop medication administration, evidence-based decision support and the introduction of clinical pathways in a broad sense.
