167 APPENDICES Dear Egbert, our friendship started when we were house mates at the Berg en Dalseweg 23, but really took off during our incredible Grand Tour with key destination Florence, which almost resulted in my bankruptcy. Many years later, our dinners at De Kring were a source of true solace and joy after a hard day’s work to finish my dissertation. Your friendship is precious to me. Therefore, I am proud and honoured that you are my paranymph. It is a privilege and comfort to have a loving family, and I certainly share in that happiness. Many thanks to my lovely in-laws for welcoming me in their caring and affectionate family. I hope we can enjoy many more years together. I especially thank my parents for their constant love and unfailing confidence in me. They instilled in me a strong sense of responsibility and a little stubborness.
