Dose adjustment algorithm for haloperidol On day 1, haloperidol dosing was increased according to standard guidelines with repeating dosing of 1.0 mg every 40 minutes until delirium resolved. Maximum dose allowed was 20 mg orally or 10 mg subcutaneously per 24 hours. The loading, titration, and maximum dose of haloperidol was halved for patients ≥75 years of age. Maintenance dose on day 2 was one half of the total dose of haloperidol administered during the first 24 hours, which was divided in 1 or 2 doses.
