6 | 235 Acknowledgements (Dankwoord) (2012) degree in Science cum laude. He also successfully completed the Radboud Honours Programme in Social Sciences (2011). For his master thesis, Jasper made a first effort exploring the impact of major life events on sport participation, together with fellow student Ralf Hermsen. This earned them the Boymans Award for best master thesis in the field of sport, physical education and recreation in 2012. And it laid the foundation for Jasper’s PhD research, which he started working on a couple of years later at the RSCR (Radboud Social Cultural Research) in collaboration with the HAN University of Applied Sciences, resulting in this dissertation. He was able to do this part-time, next to working as a senior consultant at the Transferpunt Sport and lecturer and researcher at the HAN School of Sport and Exercise. During this period, he and his life partner (now fiancé) Lotte Makkinje started living in the Wolfskuil in Nijmegen, and the birth of their daughter Moni (2016) and son Guus (2018) enriched their lives, making them proud parents. Also, Jasper’s passion for cycling revived, however at the expense of all the other sports he practiced. His collection of bikes probably grew faster than his fitness level, but whenever he can these days he goes out for a ride. About the author
