159 The medium to long-term effects of two-duct ligation for excessive drooling in neurodisabilities, a cross-sectional study 7 Adverse events after 2-DL. Fourteen out of the 51 patients that underwent 2-DL reported adverse events related to the operation, all except two occurring and resolving within 32 weeks postintervention. Severe adverse events occurred in three patients. These included one patient who suffered from recurrent submandibular infection that required antibiotics and eventually submandibular gland extirpation. Another patient developed recurrent bilateral ranulas within one year postintervention, which were treated by ranula and sublingual glands excision and re-clipping of the right submandibular duct. This patient was not included for the effect analyses because the sublingual gland excision interfered with reliable measurement (table 2).
