9 About the author | 207 ABOUT THE AUTHOR Maaike van Gameren was born on the 19th of January 1997 in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands. After completing secondary school at Titus Brandsmalyceum in Oss, she started her Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at Radboud University in Nijmegen. During her studies, she developed a keen interest in clinical research and human movement sciences. After obtaining her Bachelor’s degree, Maaike continued with a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at Radboud University, where she further specialized in clinical research and human movement sciences. Immediately following her Master’s degree, Maaike started her PhD at the Department of Human Movement Sciences at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, under the supervision of Mirjam Pijnappels, Bart Visser, Judith Bosmans, and Daniël Bossen. During her doctoral research, she investigated the (cost-)effectiveness of the In Balance fall prevention intervention. The results of this study are presented in this dissertation. In November 2024, Maaike started working as a researcher at VeiligheidNL, focusing on fall prevention for older adults, with an emphasis on knowledge dissemination and the implementation of fall prevention programs to reduce both the frequency and impact of falls in this population.
