88 Chapter 4 symbol highlighting skills. However, minimal progress was noted in scaffolding abilities. In terms of fluency and connectedness within parent-child interactions, three dyads showed improvements, whereas the remaining dyads demonstrated no discernible change before and immediately after treatment. Notably, all parents reported enhanced mental well-being following the intervention. As for parental stress, results varied: two parents experienced, reduced parental stress, one did not experience any change and one parent seemed to experience more parental stress. Despite this variability, all parents reported satisfaction with the BEAR intervention and noted improvement on multiple areas including child behaviour, parenting efficacy, and understanding their child’s behaviour. While professionals were more critical regarding the effectiveness of the training that they provided, they nevertheless expressed overall satisfaction with BEAR’s impact on family functioning, child rearing practices and parental insight in the behaviour of the child. In conclusion, preliminary short-term results seem promising. However, pilot results offer only a first and exploratory impression of the BEAR intervention in a small sample directly after completing the intervention. Naturally, robust replication and analyses on larger scale is needed to draw conclusions on its effectiveness, as well as studying its effects on the longer term. Therefore, a follow-up step will be testing the short-term and six-month outcomes of BEAR in a two arm cluster randomized controlled trial.
